MìLà Frozen Pork Soup Dumpling Review

Review

Price (★★★☆☆): 3.5/5

Priced at $39.99 for a 50pc bag (as of October 2024), it cost $.80 per dumpling, which I personally think is on the pricier end. You can definitely find other options at Asian supermarkets (like 99 Ranch, HMart, GW etc) that are a lot more affordable.

Ease of Preparation (★★★★★): 5/5

Cooking the soup dumplings is a breeze! While a steam basket is necessary, I appreciate that the package includes parchment liners for added convenience (not pictured).

Flavor (★★★★☆): 3.7/5

Before trying MìLà’s frozen soup dumplings, I have tried just two other brands of frozen soup dumplings: Wei Chuan, a classic Chinese brand, and Costco’s Bibigo soup dumplings. Apart from frozen soup dumplings, I have eaten A LOT of soup dumplings at restaurants, from renowned names like Din Tai Fung to popular spots in New York, such as Joe’s Shanghai. Overall, I found MìLà’s dumplings to be quite good and of solid quality. However, I felt the filling could benefit from a bit more flavor, and the wrapper was a tad too thick, with an almost sticky consistency when chewed. On a positive note, I appreciated how well the dumplings held their soup, and from a presentation perspective, they looked tall and appetizing—unlike Bibigo’s dumplings, which tend to appear a bit deflated.

Summary:

MìLà Frozen Soup Dumplings are a solid option for quality soup dumplings at home. While it is more expensive than other frozen soup dumpling brands, it still comes out cheaper than ordering at a restaurant. I appreciate their focus on quality and experience as well as their whimsical packaging. Would I purchase these again? Maybe at a smaller quantity. There are so many other brands to try that curiosity is stronger than familiarity.

Overall rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5)

You can purchase MìLà’s frozen dumplings on their website or at some stores like Costco or Whole Foods.
